Email Embedding

Surveys created with XLAONE can be answered directly within the email invitation itself. This feature is designed to boost response rates by reducing friction — making it easier and faster for recipients to participate.

Embedding Options

NOTE: Embedding behavior depends on the respondent’s email client. If embedding is not supported, the email will fall back to a standard invitation format with a link to the survey.

There are two ways to embed surveys in emails:

  • Single-Question Only

The first question of the survey appears directly in the body of the email. When the respondent selects an answer, they are redirected to the full survey (if additional questions follow). This method is ideal for quick feedback and increasing engagement.

  • Full Survey

The entire survey can be embedded and completed within the email itself, allowing respondents to submit their answers without ever leaving their inbox.

Compatibility and Limitations

Email Client Support

Not all email clients support embedded content in the same way. Most modern desktop clients (such as Outlook and Gmail) support single-question embedding, but full survey embedding may not work in all environments. In unsupported clients, recipients will receive a regular invitation with a clickable link.

The following Email clients currently support embedding:

  • Outlook (web)

  • new Outlook app

  • Gmail

  • Yahoo

Question Type Limitations

Only certain question types are supported in embedded formats. Supported types currently are:

  • Text

  • Comment

  • Imagepicker

  • Radiogroup

  • Image

  • Checkbox

  • Dropdown

  • Multipletext

  • Rating

More complex formats (e.g. conditional logic) may require the respondent to complete the survey in a browser. In the Survey Designer an indication shows whether the survey can be embedded or not.
